Trading fees

Trading fees are directly associated with trading activity. Most trading platforms charge a fee whenever a trader opens or closes a position for some profit, as this is the main activity that happens in the industry. meaning you are not charged upon opening or closing a position. Likewise, there are no management, ticket or any other additional broker fees. Even in case you choose to replicate other traders’ strategies or invest in ready portfolios, no management fees shall be charged for doing so.

However, specific fees still apply in some cases and may depend on the type of asset being traded. In the following sections you will find the most relevant fees of eToro for each asset class.

Trading fees
Stocks and ETF’s

Acquisition of a stock or an ETF provides you with the actual ownership of the underlying asset, and stock investments on eToro have no commission at all. No broker fee shall be charged to a trader for opening or closing a position and it doesn’t apply to short or leveraged positions. This is something that only a few top-ranked brokers are able to provide to its customers, and eToro is proud to be one of them.

CFD’s
CFD’s are some of the most popular instruments amongst traders due to the flexibility that they offer, including the option of leverage trading and short selling. Account fees

Opening an account is free on eToro! There are no management or administrative (ticketing) fees taken, even when you decide to replicate another trader’s strategy or simply invest into a ready portfolio. But some other fees, which are presented below, may apply.

Account fees
Deposit fee

When making your initial deposit into your account, no fees will be charged. Once you register on the platform you will receive $100,000 on the demo account for trading.

Withdrawal fees

eToro’s funds’ withdrawal fees are relatively small compared to other platforms, but there is still a need to cover for the expenses associated with international money transfers. eToro sets a minimum amount of 30$ for withdrawal and an additional charge of 5$ for this transfer.

Bear in mind that these values are set in dollar amounts, so in case another currency is being used on your account, the amounts will have to be converted and hence a fee for this conversion may be applied too.

Inactivity fee

In case your account doesn’t show any activity for 12 month, a fee of 10$ will be taken out monthly out of your remaining balance.

Overnight fees

Overnight fees is the interest taken out of your account in case a position is left open overnight. CDFs, currencies and commodities are subject to these fees. Overnight fee is necessary to cover for the leverage used by a trader overnight. This amount differs for long (when an asset is purchased) and short positions (selling of an asset). This amount will be charged between Monday and Friday after 21:00 GMT; over the weekend this fee is triple the amount of the overnight fee, and is taken out on Wednesday or Friday depending on the traded instrument.

Overnight fees

Overnight fees are calculated according to the formula: fee * amount in units.

To check the exact amount please access the ‘Trading Conditions’ tab.

Note on account verification

Please make sure to verify your account to avoid potential withdrawal of funds or even account closure. It is not a particularly difficult process and it allows you to trade safely and securely.

Summary

As previously said, eToro provides commission free stock trading for its users. Opening and setting up an account is easy, there are many ways to make a deposit and the variability of available trading instruments is impressive. On the other hand, forex fees may be quite pricey, as well as several other fees, like withdrawal or inactivity commissions.
eToro shares a common interest with its clients and does not benefit from you losses. Fees and commissions are charged, but in fact they are not the main source of revenue for the platform. eToro benefits from covering trader’s activities while trading, profiting from when clients make a profit themselves, thus sharing a common interest. eToro aims at supporting its customers and helps them to succeed by providing customer support, educational material and facilitating the use of the platform on your devices.
Fees Summary
Likewise, eToro aims at maintaining transparency about the services it provides, as well as the potential downsides like fees a trader might encounter to facilitate their trading.
Hopefully this article covered the key aspects of eToro’s fees and commissions, but in case any doubts still remain, do not hesitate to drop any questions in the comment section below. For more information check out eToro’s fees and commissions page and our Terms and Conditions. Please remember that you are facing capital loss risks while trading and that fees may be subjected to a change depending on the market conditions, so do stay updated!
